We provide end-to-end scanning and digitization services that meet requirements for both print (in books as images or text) and electronic media (in e-books or for display on your web page) usage. Additionally, our print-on-demand service can be used to print copies of the digitized material in required numbers.
How It Works
We scan your documents or books using scanners especially designed to handle books carefully. We scan at 600 dpi thus ensuring that the resulting image has high resolution for use in both print and in electronic media. We take good care of the books entrusted to us and ensure that they do not get damaged during the scanning process.
This service can be used to digitize books, periodicals, manuals, diaries, documents, newspapers and technical manuals and other similar items.
We offer mainly three types of services:
• "As is" conversion: The scanned pages are submitted as images in TIFF format. In case a reproduction of the book is desired, these images are then "cleaned" for smudges, etc. and formatted to the intended book size.
• Scanned images with OCR: The scanned image is submitted to Optical Character Recognition (OCR) allowing the text on the scanned pages to be edited, if needed.
• OCR with Proofreading: Given the fact that OCR is never accurate, we will compare the OCR output to the original text and compare to ensure that errors do not creep in.
We can provide output in multiple formats including TIFF, PNG, JPG, GIF and PDF. A CD or DVD of the scanned images will be provided on request.
We scan at the rate of approximately 80 pages per day. Actual turnaround times may vary depending upon the complexity of the subject matter covered in the manuscript and the age of the book or documents being scanned. If the material being scanned is too fragile to be transported, we also scan the book at its original site.
Notes:
In case the book must be scanned and later typeset with other inclusions, these inclusions must be submitted before the typesetting commences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does this service cost?
A: The "as is" service costs Rs. 8 per page, the scanning and OCR service costs Rs. 16 per page while the OCR and the proof reading service costs Rs. 80 per page.
